Cellhire case studies

The Customer - Navman

Navman was founded in 1986, in a garage in Auckland, New Zealand. The company has since grown into a global concern and has diversified from its early days in marine electronics, to become a world leader in the fields of in-vehicle tracking and fleet management technologies.

Navman had around 50 UK connections with Vodafone, including some BlackBerry data- only usage. An additional 40 staff spread across mainland Europe, operated on personal contracts, reclaiming the cost of business calls via their monthly expenses. The difficulty experienced, was that any UK Network or Service Provider only had standard corporate international rates available to them, and as they were subject to inter-connect charges with international networks when taking a UK mobile abroad, there wasn't a significant saving between any of the providers. Plus, Navman would have had to negotiate and manage contracts in every country where they have a presence.

The Solution

Cellhire standardised all Navman staff onto BlackBerry handsets, irrespective of whether email was required initially, in order to consolidate to one hardware platform. We deployed the service in a manner that generates significant cost savings, which were further boosted by deploying our unique SIMSmart proposition. SIMSmart enables us to extend converged BlackBerry connectivity throughout Europe, using local airtime agreements in each individual country, to attain the very best call rates. All of this was provided through a single UK bill to ease administration and assist management.
Cellhire now provides a consolidated voice and data service for Navman across the UK, France, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands.

The Quote

"We wanted to consolidate our requirements and attain cost savings wherever possible. And we wanted the process to be properly managed through from implementation and also moving forward, for peace of mind. Whilst our incumbent network was unable to meet our needs, Cellhire stepped up to the mark and so far we're very pleased". Colin Holloway, Navman
